The effect of: Ln (III), Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Pb (II), Fe (III), Cu (II), Zn, Cd, Hg (I) and Hg (II) on the aromatic system of salicylic and benzoic acids was compared. With a rise in the ionic potential of metals, the perturbation of the aromatic system decreases. La, Nd, Dy, Yb, Lu, Al and Fe (III) (in contrast to heavy toxic metals and alkaline elements) stabilize the aromatic system both salicylic and benzoic acids. A higher degree of delocalization of π electrons in the aromatic ring of salicylic acid brings about higher delocalization of 4f electrons in ions of lanthanides. The influence of metals on the aromatic system of salicylic acid is greater than on benzoic acid. |
