Popis: | Teachers’ role in the quality education mission is very vital, and they have to exercise leadership in their professional practices. Leadership in teacher education is the need of the hour, and it has to be the integral part of the teacher education programs. Education system continues to undergo significant change in response to factors such as government policies, knowledge economy, continuing growth in demand for higher levels of educational attainment, professionalism and accountability, rapid economic development, universalization of education and society-wide influence of information technology, demands for increased access and internationalization of education. In this chapter, the authors have discussed the current scenario of teacher education programs in India and explained the need for transformational leadership in teacher education. Forces for higher standards, greater educational choice, more powerful learning for a more diverse educational system, demands teachers with multiple skills both pedagogical and leadership, who can be able to mold students to face the challenges and aspiration of the present competitive world and make them future leaders. |
