With increase in the advancement of the power electronics, electrical power systems and complexity due to the interconnected grid there are huge evolution done in the transmission network. By taking respective factors into consideration, protection is the important phenomenon. Basic principle behind the distance relay is based on the measurement of the current & voltage and the term apparent impedance. It calculates the impedance between relay and location at which fault and based on the impedance it senses the fault. Teed-feed transmission line is producing infeed current which leads to the malfunction of the protection of the transmission lines. Furthermore, fault resistance is also one of the factors due to that distance relay is getting maloperate and its effects on reach and zone of the relay due to the malfunction relay is not able to sense the fault and identify the correct zone of the operation. Specially due to infeed current and fault resistance relay becomes underreach. And it happens due to the infeed current has significant impact on the backup protection of the distance relay. This study represents, the impact of infeed current and higher resistance of fault on distance protection. T-feed system is considered for the simulation and this extensive simulation has been carried out in software MATLAB/SIMULINK. |
