Popis: To the east, there was extensive evidence for major interactions between Judah and the Transjordan during the long seventh century. Evidence of this interaction in the material culture is especially intense in the Beersheba and Arad valleys, at the heart of the eastwest trade route, with the ceramic repertoire of some settlements witnessing to the substantial perpetuation of Transjordanian material culture in this area. Though substantial evidence of direct Assyrian material cultural influence in the Transjordan is lacking, it was noted that the development of an Edomite state during this period was probably the consequence of regional changes wrought by the advent of Assyrian power. The period between the emergence of Israel and the Babylonian exile does not comprise centuries of ethnic stagnation but, at least in its final stages, represents a turbulent period of dramatic change in understandings of what it meant to be an Israelite. Keywords: Assyrian; Edomite state; Israel; Israelite; Judah; Transjordan
