Popis: | A model has been developed of the negative glow and Faraday dark space in a Hg-Ar discharge (fluorescent lamp), which includes a self-consistently calculated axially varying electron temperature. This represents a significant advance over previously reported models where the electron temperature had to be supplied as an estimated input parameter to the model. This new model also has the advantage that the negative glow, Faraday dark space and positive column are now treated as a single continuous region with no unphysical discontinuities between them. To verify the model predictions, experimental measurements have been made using a movable Langmuir probe system. This has enabled axial plots of the electron density, electron temperature, plasma potential and electron energy distribution function to be measured. Good agreement has been obtained between the code predictions and the experimental measurements. Details of the numerical model and the experimental measurements are presented together with comparisons of the results from each. |
