The relationship between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the risk for violence is not well understood, despite sensationalistic news reports. Situations do arise, however, in which someone with ASD seems to pose a risk for committing a violent act. And there are aspects of ASD which may present unique risk factors or alter conventional risk factors. As a result, there is a need for ASD-specific assessments of violence risk. In this chapter, we outline themes from the limited research on this area, and describe factors which need to be considered in assessment of violence risk of people with ASD. |
