Popis: 1. Recent scientific interest has been directed toward determining the causes of variations in the birth rates, since present differentials indicate that our future population will be recruited largely from agricultural and urban laboring classes * 2. The incidence of involuntary sterility and infertility in selected population groups is unknown. Study of a small, selected group suggests that the increasing incidence of pathology with advancing age is an important factor in the decline in fertility, when contraception is not practiced. 3. The incidence of involuntary pregnancy wastage, in a selected group of women, shows no change with age or religion and has been approximately the same for the past twenty-five years. 4. Voluntary control of fertility by means of contraception and induced abortion is responsible for major variations in pregnancy and birth rates. 5. Further researches on the physiology of fertility and the incidence of sterility are needed before the causes of variations in fertility can be adequately interpreted.
