Popis: Active carbons were modified by a multicycle deposition of silica. Surface and structural changes in the modified active carbons were evaluated by analyzing complete nitrogen adsorption isotherms measured for a series of samples of varying amounts of the deposited silica. Nitrogen adsorption data were utilized to calculate the total and external surface areas, the total pore volume, and the volume of micropores. Structural changes in active carbons caused by the deposition of silica were monitored by analyzing the pore-size distributions obtained from the adsorption isotherms measured over the entire range of relative pressures. In addition, the surface heterogeneity of the silica−carbon materials was characterized by means of the adsorption energy distributions.
