Popis: | Fenofibrate {2-[4-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-phenoxy]-2-methylpropanoic acid-1 -methyl-ethyl ester; trade name: Lipanthyl} is a hypolipidaemic drug structurally related to Clofibrate and other fibrate-type lipid-lowering agents. Fenofibrate is more potent than Clofibrate in reducing plasma triglycerides and cholesterol concentrations (Daubresse 1980; Brown et al. 1986). In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the safety of fibrate hypolipidaemics, particularly since they are enzyme inducers and peroxisome proliferators in rodent liver (Cohen and Grasso 1981; Reddy et al. 1987). The toxicological significance of this phenomenon, particularly its relevance in risk assessment, is uncertain. The biliary disposition of the hypolipidaemic drug fenofibrate has been examined in rat, in the context of furthering its safety evaluation. |
