In this paper, a compact, planar, orthogonally oriented micro-strip fed multiband Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna with a high isolation covering 4.64-9 GHz is suggested. The proposed antenna exploits a pair of orthogonally oriented star shaped monopoles with common ground plane for providing wide multiband characteristics. High isolation (>16 dB) in the suggested diversity system is obtained by employed orthogonal orientation of the monopoles as well as by engraving a pair of slits in the common ground plane. A rectangular parasitic strip is placed behind the monopoles to achieve better impedance matching at 8.1 GHz. The suggested multiband antenna covers three significant bands namely Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) (5.155.85 GHz), IEEE INSAT/Super-Extended C-Band (6.3-7.27 GHz) and X-Band satellite communication (7.9-8.4 GHz) with a high isolation of ≥16 dB. The spacing between the monopoles is staggeringly reduced to 1.5 mm. The antenna is realized within a compact dimension of 25.3mm×34.80 mm (L×W). The numerical analysis of the diversity parameters shows that the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is well below 0.05. The maximum realized gain of the proposed antenna is found to be 4.21 dBi. The consistency among diverse numerical outcomes recommends the candidature of the suggested antenna for multiband wireless diversity applications. |
