Popis: Although much is known today about the mechanisms by which leukocytes and their intracellular enzymes kill bacteria very little is known about the biochemical pathways of degradation of the ingested microbiota. It is accepted that soon after the uptake of bacteria by neutrophils (PMNs) and macrophages fusion of lysosomes with the phagosome occurs. This is followed by the intravacuolar discharge of lysosomal agents which lead to the killing and degradation of the intracellular bacteria (2).
