Shortly after her dismissal from Columbia, Monroe became personally and professionally associated with the powerful agent Johnny Hyde. She appeared briefly with Groucho Marx in Love Happy and, soon afterward, posed for her famous nude calendar. A major turning point came with her casting in John Huston’s The Asphalt Jungle, which won her outstanding reviews. A second important film, All about Eve, followed months later and led to a new contract at Twentieth Century-Fox. Interspersed with these were minor film roles and even a television commercial. Hyde’s death late in 1950 left her grief-stricken and, for a time, without firm professional guidance. |
