Popis: | There has been a dramatic increase in the number, scope, and scale of international water meetings in recent years. While these meetings have contributed to building a global consensus on water-related policies, the authors now have significant doubts about the added value of additional global conferences unless they are carefully designed, limited in scope, and focused in effort. The authors suggest that future global water conferences should address only the problems and solutions that really need global consensus, while smaller regional or sectoral meetings should be used to achieve practical progress more readily and more economically. Ministerial meetings should be organized by the United Nations or national governments, not as parts of general global water conferences. |
