Strain sensor with low-temperature sensitivity based on a weakly multimode optical fibre using coherence multiplexing

Popis: | For strain measurements, we propose an intrinsic optical fibre sensor based on the interference between modes in a weakly multimode optical fibre. The sensor response to an external stress and the sensor behaviour without any perturbation are studied. A numerical simulation permits us to determine the opto-geometrical parameters of the fibres to be used. The experimental output signals recorded when the strain is varied are presented. Very good agreement with the numerical simulation is obtained. The measured thermal coefficient of this strain sensor is one order of magnitude smaller than that of sensors based on birefringent fibres. |
