Popis: | Emile Durkheim's pioneering work The Division of Labor in Society was published one hundred years ago. It ends with a conclusion that in a certain sense was the author's sociological lesson addressed to his contemporaries in France and other countries of Western Europe. Here is the first, "defining" part of it: "Some profound changes have taken place within a short period in the structure of our societies; they have rid themselves of the segmented type with a speed and on a scale unprecedented in history. … Our faith was shaken; tradition lost its authority; and individual judgment was emancipated from collective judgment. On the other hand, however, the functions that became disconnected during the course of revolution have not yet had time for mutual adaptation, and the new life that seemed to burst to the surface has not yet had time to become organized, organized above all so as to satisfy the need for justice that has seized our hearts" [1]. |
