Popis: This chapter analyzes how data-opolies become so powerful and how they leverage their dominance into other markets. It reexamines certain beliefs that the powerful platforms take advantage of preexisting market forces, such as network effects, passively. The chapter reveals how the powerful platforms do not use network effects passively, but instead use them offensively to wipe out potential threats. It explains how they use their nowcasting radar to identify nascent competitive threats, which they then acquire, copy or kill. It also explores how the data-opolies follow a similar pattern of colonizing the next generation of ecosystems where we might eventually migrate, using a Venus Flytrap Strategy.
