1. 1. A method for the preparation of plasma membranes from smooth muscle of the uterus of Bos taurus is described. 2. 2. The plasma membranes have been isolated by discontinuous sucrose density gradient centrifugation without the use of salt extractions. 3. 3. Steps of purification were controlled by electron microscopy and enzyme analyses. 4. 4. 5′-Nucleotidase, phosphodiesterase, (K + −Mg 2+ )-ATPase and (Na + −K + )-ATPase could be enriched in our preparation. 5. 5. No evidence was obtained for a membrane-bound ocytocinase activity and for 3′,5′-nucleotide-phosphodiesterase activity in the plasma membranes from bovine uterus muscle. |
