Popis: Microwave energy and unheated air are combined in a multimode cavity to dry corn. Frequencies used are 2450 and 915 MHz. Results show that there is a limit to the speed at which corn may be dried. Beyond this limit there is enough swelling of the kernels to lower the market grade. Drying rates obtained were not influenced by the air-flow rates that were used. Energy conversion analysis showed that from 31 to 56 percent of the micro-wave energy dissipated in the cavity was utilized for the specific purpose of removing moisture from the corn.
