We describe the extension of the 1-D hardware-compressive wavelength-multiplexed (lambda-MUX) true time delay (TTD) steering architecture described earlier to 2-D array or subarray antennas, and we present a technique for achieving multiple beams at different angles and frequencies. In addition to its enormous hardware saving, this 2-D architecture is reversible (i.e., the same hardware can be used for both transmit and receive modes), and requires very simple digital control. The limitation of the size of the lambda-MUX TTD system imposed by the finite wavelength spacing is also discussed. |
