Popis: | It has been known for nearly 20 years that rabbits become hypercholesterolemia and develop atherosclerotic lesions when fed semipurified diets, even though the diets contain little or no cholesterol. The hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis have been observed with low-fat diets and with diets containing saturated fats, but can largely be prevented by incorporating polyunsaturated fats into the diet (Lambert et al., 1958; Malmros and Wigand, 1959). |
