Popis: | The authors examine the use of song-poetry as a means of coping with and responding to the stress associated with addiction counseling. An exploration of the process of creating song-poetry reveals effective strategies for counselor self-therapy and coping with job-related stress. The first author, in first-person narrative, presents three examples of lyrics and music that he wrote in response to working with addicted and mentally ill clients over a 15-year clinical career. These findings complement the extant literature on the use of songwriting as therapy for addicted clients and supplements current research on promoting and enhancing counselor resilience with anecdotal evidence from a long-time addiction professional. |
