It has been widely accepted that children, due to their age and developmental stage, are especially vulnerable to abuse and maltreatment. The risk of exposure to victimisation is substantially increased when a child experiences impairment and disability. This chapter highlights the prevalence of CSA in children with disabilities and impairments and the permanence of this vulnerability. The authors explore the relationship between disability, vulnerability, and risk. The chapter discusses the considerations relevant to protecting children with a disability, highlighting the implications for prevention and intervention in child protection practice. |
