In this chapter, various ionospheric modelling and forecasting techniques are explained to understand their differences, as well as their capability to forecast and modelling the ionospheric delay. Several modelling approaches that use data collected over several years to forecast ionospheric delay are introduced. However, most of these models provide accuracies ranging from 50 to 60% or difficult to implement. The IRI model has undergone considerable progress recently and provides accurate results for mid-latitude regions. Time-series models are currently used to forecast ionospheric delay. Most of these models can forecast the ionospheric delay during geomagnetic quiet periods only. |
