Popis: As a new antifungal agent, one of the mercaptothiazol derivatives, 3-(p-methylbenzylideneamino)-4-phenylthiazoline-2-thione (MPT) was selected from various kinds of synthetic organic compounds.MPT was markedly active only against Dermatophytes and was inactive against bacteria, yeasts and the other fungi. The minimal inhibitory concentration of MPT against Trichophyton, Epidermophyton and Microsporum was 0.8. to 1.6μg/ml. Addition of 10% serum to the test medium exhibited no influence on activity of MPT.The action of MPT on the fungi is assumed fungistatic, but MPT also shows the fungicidal action and it's activity is higher than griseofulvin. MPT is effective on the various growth stages of Trichophyton, especially on the stages of hypha and spore germination, very strongly.Acute toxicity of MPT in mice and rats shown as LD50 values (i. p., s. c., and orally) was more than 10g/kg. Skin-irritation tests by continuous using of MPT tincture on guinea pigs and rabbits showed negative results.
