The Serial Reaction Time Task (SRTT) is a widely used task to measure human and animal learning in the field of behavioural and cognitive neuroscience. A vast number of publications refer to this task as a “motor learning task” however the SRTT is also a perceptual learning task, Here, we stress that the improper use of the term “motor learning” misleads researchers and medical doctors by pointing to the exclusive role of the motor cortex. It can result in the misinterpretation of neuroscientific and clinical studies. The domino effect can continue to generate flawed hypotheses and theories. |
