Popis: In industry today, the control of many technologically outdated machines is accomplished by logic of relays, which suffers from some inherent drawbacks. This paper describes the hardware and software implementation of a microprocessor-based controller board for the Marvel 81A band saw machine system which is controlled by logic of relays at General Electric. It is cost-effective and is supported by a modular software package that can be tailored to similar applications. The proposed stand-alone controller board is equipped with a keypad from which the operator enters different commands in order to control the operation of the machine. Each operation is controlled by a software subroutine, and the analog timers are replaced by software timers. During each operation, an LCD display tells where the machine is in its operation sequence. The main feature of the controller is that it can be directly applied to a wide range of industrial machines since a general operating protocol was considered while developing it. All industries can benefit from this controller, since it alleviates the need of purchasing new machines.
