Popis: | The West African Economic and Monetary Union is trying to maintain positive growth despite the COVID-19 health crisis. But this growth remains fragile due to its reliance on the export of raw materials. The objective of this paper is to find a link between Islamic finance and economic growth in this area. This financial system, which is still lagging behind, can be a source of growth for this economic area. To achieve this objective, this study will be carried out using the Generalized Moment Model (GMM) with the sample spanning from 1990 to 2019 of the eight countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union. The results show a link between the Islamic financial system variables and economic growth but with a negative impact on growth. The paper relates this result to the weakness of the Islamic financial system variables because in this region there are only two Islamic banks and a few small institutions.
