The Book of Dede Korkut (stories) is an epic epic presenting sections from the lives of the Oghuzs in the pre-Islamic period. Dede Korkut Stories are a work that has been studied and should be examined in our education system and in the field of Turkish education history. The purpose of this research is to examine how some of the values that come to the fore in Dede Korkut Stories (consultation, courage, social solidarity and unity, generosity-helpfulness and hospitality, love and respect, aesthetic understanding) mean for principals and teachers in high schools. The research was carried out by applying the phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consists of 47 school administrators and teachers working in high schools in Nizip district of Gaziantep province. Research data were collected face to face with semi-structured interview technique. Findings were obtained by subjecting the collected qualitative data to content analysis. It has been concluded that the values mentioned and examined in the Dede Korkut Stories can increase social sensitivity in the school environment, reinforce the feelings of unity and solidarity, and provide students with leadership and entrepreneurship characteristics. Various suggestions have been developed to better understand Dede Korkut Stories in school environments. |
