Popis: An archaeological testing program was undertaken for Salt River Project on two sites as part of the widening project of the Coronado Coal Haul Railroad. The project areas combined, total slightly less than one acre. Seven trenches were placed, systematically and judgementally, within the two sites. Prior to the digging of trenches, however, surface artifacts were collected from 4 x 4 m grid units, placed directly over the backhoe trenches. Surface artifact distributions were used in defining site boundaries and the lengths of the backhoe trenches. No subsurface features were identified but six features were noted. Based on the ceramic assemblage, the prehistoric occupation of the sites falls between AD 850 and 1150. Archaeological clearance can be recommended, where no subsurface remains were found. Data recovery is recommended at site to be focused on the six features defined in profile.
