A relative humidity probe was added to an existing set of meteorological measurement devices aboard the M.V. S.A. Agulhas to provide an automatic, unmanned, air-sea interaction measuring system, from which the exchange of momentum, heat and water vapour at the ocean-atmosphere interface was derived. Results from the 1994 Marion Island Relief Cruise were complemented by the radiosonde releases made by the South African Weather Bureau. Marine atmospheric boundary layer characteristics and air-sea interaction over the Agulhas Current are discussed. |
