Popis: Vereshchagin and Morozov [i] have described scattering quarter-wave interference systems with cutoff. Alternating densely packed mono!ayers of scattering crystal particles with a high refractive index are separated by gaps filled with a continuous medium which has a low refractive index and is free of particles. Such scattering media with arbitrary values of the optical and geometrical parameters of the layers are termed layered scattering media. The spectral properties of the layered scattering systems can depend upon the characteristics of scattering and absorption by individual inhomogeneities and their position, as well as upon the parameters of the continuous layers.
