The pollen and spores from three shallow boreholes in the Bristol Channel are described in terms of established form-genera. Arguments are presented to support the view that form species have little purpose in the study of Tertiary pollen, either for geologists or botanists. The Middle Oligocene age determination of the sediments is based solely on these palynological results; it is supported by comparisons with the published work from other European assemblages of this age, in particular the regular occurrence of certain form-genera. |
