Popis: Review of Topics in Current Genetics 15: Comparative Genomics Using Fungi as Models Edited by P. Sunnerhagen, J. Piskur. Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, Germany. ISBN 3540314806. Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, Germany. ISBN 3540314806. This collection of 10 chapters on various aspects of fungal comparative genomics is in a sense a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the completion of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome sequence. In the last 10 years, a great deal has been learned about all aspects of life from this genome sequence, in part due to the continued expansion of sequencing in other organisms. Comparative genomics is a growing field with great potential for solving the fundamental questions of biology. Yeasts and fungi are at the forefront of the field, and this fungal bloom is leading to a fermenting of new ideas and technologies. In this volume of Topics in Current Genetics , we find a history of the yeast genome project and its annotation and how comparative genomics has helped refine gene discovery and annotations in the first chapter by Axelson-Fisk and …
