The thermodynamics of the polypentenamer (PPM)

Popis: The heat content C°p of the polypentenamer (PPM) was determined in an adiabatic vacuum calorimeter in the 14–322°K range with a 0·2% error. We found the Tg, m.p. and ΔHm.p., and calculated the functions H°TH°0 S°TS°T, G°TH°0 for the amorphous and crystalline PPM in the 0–325°K range. The zero entropy of the completely amorphous PPM was assessed (S°0 = 12.6 J·mole−1·K−1) and the difference between the zero enthalpies of the completely amorphous and 100% crystalline PPM (H°0,aH°0,c = 5000 J·mole−1·°K−1). The H°p of the liquid cylopentene (CP) present in the amorphous PPM was determined and the ΔH°p, ΔS°p, ΔG°p, Kp, [M]e values were calculated for the 0–325°K range. The upper temperature limit of the CP polymerization Tu.1 = 372°K.
