Popis:	We have investigated the impact of the pH and the concentration of reaction components on the rate of the oxidation of ascorbic acid by dissolved oxygen in the presence of copper salt and the rate of the dying-off of bacteria Escherichia coli under the same conditions. The obtained data have been analyzed by the method of stationary concentrations. This provided a basis for discussing the nature of intermediates appearing during oxidation of ascorbic acid and causing the death of microorganisms.
