The design and synthesis of anion receptors possessing high affinity and selectivity still remains a challenging task due to rather complex nature of anionic species compared with those of cations. Among the vari-ous neutral anion receptors reported in recent years, calix[4] pyrroles and their congeners have emerged as particularly attrac-tive, in part because they are readily accessible and can be ob-tained in single step from commercially available starting ma-terials. Various modified calix[4]pyrroles have been designed and synthesized for improved recognition properties. |
