Popis:	Paracoccus denitrificans is a Gram-negative facultative chemolithotroph found in soil. Oxidative phosphorylation and the aerobic respiratory chain of the organism are very similar to those of mitochondria [1] and serve as useful models for studying mitochondrial bioenergetics. Studies of the system would be helped by genetic analysis and by molecular cloning. As a first step in this direction we have developed a method of transforming Pc. denitrificans by covalently closed circular RP1 DNA and we discuss some of the conditions necessary for such transformation.
