Popis: | 1. 1. The mediodorsal bodies (MDB) of the pulmonate snails Lymnaea stagnalis and Helix pomatia as well as the ovotestis of H. pomatia contain ecdysteroids. 2. 2. After in vitro incubation of isolated MDB of H. pomatia considerable amounts of immunoreactive ecdysteroids (IE) were detected in the incubation medium whereas in MDB tissue the ecdysteroid content showed no striking increase compared with controls. 3. 3. Immunoreactive ecdysteroids released by MDB into the culture medium were analyzed by HPLC and RIA and identified as ecdysone. 4. 4. We conclude that MDB have the capability of ecdysone biosynthesis and release. Thus, for the first time a gland secreting ecdysone has been found in an invertebrate species other than arthropods. |
