Popis: | With the ever-increasing needs of a growing human population, search for alternative renewable fuels has become imperative. Generation of biofuels derived from agricultural and industrial waste materials holds a promise in satisfying this requirement. Advances in experimental techniques have helped biorefinery to come out of infancy and take a significant leap in process development of ethanol production. Still, complexity of raw materials used and obstacles in real-time monitoring of fermentation continue to remain challenges. Bioethanol production should certainly benefit from online measurement of key process variables, especially if measurements are incorporated in process control. This chapter begins by introducing the lignocellulosic biomass to bioethanol process and summarizes the monitoring techniques for producing ethanol in bioreactor from lignocellulosic biomass. Control strategies for the various unit operations involved in bioethanol production have been discussed as well together with future research trends. |
