Popis: | Intermediate pyrolysis was applied to dried digested sludge at 500°C and yielded an average of 48 wt% char, 40 wt% biooil and 12 wt% non condensable gases. The biooil contained two phases, the (top) oil phase and the (bottom) aqueous phase. The oil phase had a higher heating value of 36 MJ/kg with a pH of 9.62. The oil phase shows good properties for fuel application that can be used in a combined heat and power system and suitable blend mixtures are being investigated. The aqueous phase will be used in an anaerobic digestion for the production of methane biogas. The pyrolysis char was found to have a nitrogen content of 3.12 wt% with a heating value of 11.22 MJ/kg. The high nitrogen content supports using the char as a fertilizer. The analysis of the pyrolysis char shows that it is within the heavy metal limits set by the EU.
