In this work, we perform Reliability Based Topology Optimization (RBTO) by combining reliability analysis and material distribution topology design methods to optimize linear elastic structures subject to random loadings. An optimization follows in which the structure volume is minimized to reduce cost subject to probabilistic constraints. To solve the optimization problem which is commonly used to evaluate the probabilistic constraint, we use a single-loop method, which eliminates the need for an inner optimization loop. Numerical results are obtained using a combination of Fortran code and the commercial software OptiStruct. Designs obtained from the proposed method are compared to designs of equal volume obtained from the traditional deterministic method. |
