There are two species of haemotropic mycoplasmas that infectdogs which are known so far. These are Mycoplasma haemocanis and"Candidatus Mycoplasma haematoparvum". In the case of dogs, theclinical picture of these infections manifests itself inimmunocompromised dogs, although the organisms are also presentin immunocompetent dogs which do not show any signs of infection. The vector for these microorganisms is the tick Rhipicephalussanguineus. The goal of this research was to confirm the presence ofcanine infections with haemotropic mycoplasmas in our geographicarea, regarding the facts that the vector of canine haemotropicmycoplasmas, the Rhipicephalus sanguineus is widely spread innature, and that the epidemic indications and the clinical signs ofcanine infections are also present. By means of light microscopicexamination of stained peripheral canine blood smears, scanningelectron microscopic examination of canine erythrocytes, as well asPCR and sequence analysis of the genome, the presence of canineinfections with "Candidatus Mycoplasma haematoparvum" in ourgeographic area has been identified for the first time. Keywords:anaemia,"CandidatusMycoplasmahaematoparvum",dogs, Haemobartonella, haemotropic mycoplasmas, Mycoplasmahaemocanis |
