We present an open-source service, PV-GRIP (Photovoltaics Geographic Raster Image Processor), that provides unified access to multiple types of geospatial data and performs a series of computations relevant to photovoltaics (PV). PV-GRIP features distributed computation design and provides decentralised data storage facilitating sharing data and PV computations across the Internet. The necessity of such a tool is motivated by the growing range of PV applications where the local environment has a substantial influence on the performance of PV modules (e.g., building-integrated (BIPV) and vehicleintegrated photovoltaics PV (VIPV)). Hence, PV-GRIP collects various geospatial data; combining multiple geospatial data sources can improve yield simulations for those PV applications. Additionally, we introduce a Simple Sky Dome Projector (SSDP) C-library for modelling irradiance. It computes sky domes according to the Perez all-weather sky model and projects this sky on a tilted surface. Unlike similar libraries, in SSDP, sky parameters are easy to change, which allows to leverage accuracy and computation time. Paper demonstrates the utility of PV-GRIP service with an application in VIPV. The data provided by our service is used for irradiance modelling for a vehicle travelling in various areas in Germany.
