Popis: | The immunomodulatory effect of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees (Lauraceae), commonly known as cinnamon, was studied using different experimental models such as carbon clearance test, cyclophosphamide-induced neutropenia, neutrophil adhesion test, effect on serum immunoglobulins, mice lethality test and indirect hemagglutination test. The bark extracts were administered orally at doses of 10 and 100 mg/kg. Levamisole (2.5 mg/kg p.o.) was used as standard drug. The low dose of cinnamon bark (10 mg/kg p.o.) produced only an increase in serum immunoglobulins levels while the high dose of cinnamon bark (100 mg/kg p.o.) decreased Pasteurella multocida-induced mortality by 17%, increased the phagocytic index in carbon clearance test, increased neutrophil adhesion, increased serum immunoglobulin levels and antibody titer values. |
