Popis: We analyzed 49 of 51 human infections caused by California serogroup viruses. People mainly affected were 14–30 years old. In 32 (65.2%) the disease was influenza-like, without symptoms of central nervous system involvement, 17 (34.8%) developed aseptic meningitis. In the influenza-like disease the principal signs and symptoms included high fever of short duration, headache, weakness. In this group, three patients with general symptoms of infection showed meningeal signs (meningismus) in the first days of the disease: increased intracranial pressure without changes in the cell composition of cerebrospinal fluid. Four patients had paravascular changes in the lungs. Among signs and symptoms in patients with aseptic meningitis severe headache, nausea, vomiting, meningeal signs predominated. In cerebrospinal fluid the number of cells was within several hundreds per m13, lymphocytes predominating, the level of protein normal or decreased slightly. In all the cases the disease was of moderate severity and the outcome favourable.
