Popis: Chemical shift imaging is useful to obtain spectra of multiple contiguous voxels simultaneously and to demonstrate detailed mapping of metabolites. 31P magnetic resonance (MR) spectra of intracranial tumours are different from those of normal brain tissue. Low concentrations of total 31P, phosphocreatine (PCr) and phosphodiesters (PDE) were observed. Glioblastoma and malignant lymphoma showed a high concentration of phosphomonoester (PME). Glioblastoma, metastatic tumour, malignant lymphoma, epidermoid and chondrosarcoma showed a high concentration of inorganic phosphorus (Pi). Metabolite images demonstrated the extension of the abnormal intensity area, which was correlated with the extension of the tumour. Calculated images (Pi/ PCr, PME/PDE) were also useful for demonstrating tumour extension. A transient increase in Pi and acidic pH were noted after treatment.
