Although the diagnosis of invasive fungal sinusitis is based on histopathological evidence, imaging is important in patients in whom complicated sinusitis is suspected, especially in the absence of the specific clinical signs and symptoms suggestive of invasive fungal sinusitis. In such difficult to manage situations, imaging with its ability to detect subtle evidence of invasive disease has a crucial role in management [1] and helps in early diagnosis. The radiologist can alert the clinician by identifying the different types of fungal sinusitis from their distinct radiologic features, which would enable the physician to decide appropriate management techniques. This chapter discusses the radiological characteristics of both invasive and noninvasive sinusitis to enable the clinician to differentiate between the types. |
