Changes in the morphology of platinum agglomerates during sintering

Popis: Platinum black was sintered at 150°C in 96% H3PO4 at various potentials. The surface area and particle size of the blacks was determined by a number of different methods and changes in morphology were observed by electron microscopy. These results established that loss of surface area was accompanied by densification of the agglomerates. Measurements of pore size distribution confirmed that pore volume decreased and small pores < 10 A were preferentially eliminated. Comparison of the various methods of particle size determination indicated that some occlusion of pores may also occur.
