The aim of this field study was to research informally different ethnic groups' methods of correcting or preventing sexual dysfunctions in a non-professional way. Sexual dysfunctions as discussed in this paper are any sexual malfunctions, with physical and/or psychological causes. The term “non-professional” practitioner or healer is applied to a person without at least a Master's degree, the required practical hours, and certification or recognition as a sex therapist by a recognized professional body. Because of the lack of trained, qualified sex therapists, only ethnic non-professional treatment of sexual dysfunction exists in many parts of the world. These approaches are often highly logical and can be successfully applied. Where sex therapists are available, however, the younger and more educated people prefer professional treatment. This report surveys a spectrum of folk treatment methods. |
