Popis: Library electronic resources do not emerge of their own accord. Their acceptance and use are a product of characteristics of the technologies themselves and the way they are perceived by people. Social groups also have a major role to play in shaping technologies. In this article we attempt to follow the introduction of electronic text through a large university library system. Electronic text represents a new development in humanities electronic resources. Library professionals as mediators are particularly well-positioned to effect the way this technology takes shape. The decisions about space, hardware, and resource allocation, have had a role to play in how this new technology has been adopted. Other factors considered here include the acceptance of electronic text in technical services, and the ways in which the electronic text community has been built both inside and outside the library.
